The World Series of Fighting: Where washed up UFC fighters go to thrive or die. Yup, if you tuned in on Saturday night, you got to witness a former UFC heavyweight champ struggle to maintain his consciousness against a dude who spent time in the Octagon as a welterweight, while elsewhere on the card a TUF 2 veteran crushed a guy who fought in the UFC no less than eleven times. WSOF 2 – while entertaining – was akin to watching a race between cars found in the junkyard. Here’s your news:
• In case you missed it, here are video highlights from the afore-described Anthony Johnson/Andrei Arlovski fight. FightLine’s very own Mike Stets got this video with “Rumble” at the post-fight presser.
• Josh Burkman smashed Aaron Simpson like Simpson owed him money, so now it looks like Burkman gets UFC super-castoff Jon Fitch next.
• Maybe you recognize Roxanne Modafferi’s name from when she fought in Strikeforce and got KO’d by Sarah Kaufman. Or maybe you’re really cool and you’ve been following female MMA since about 2005 and remember her as a badass from back in the day. Either way, she’s trying out for TUF 18. To put things in perspective, this would be like if Tito Ortiz tried out for the next season of TUF.
• Oh noes. An injury has forced Bellator female fighting star Jessica Eye off the Bellator 95 card. She would’ve faced Munah Holland in what would’ve been an awesome scrap.
