Ringside at the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) last night was there latest signee Jon Fitch. At the event, WSOF president Ray Sefo confirmed reports that the highly ranked welterweight would debut on the next show.
Since Josh Burkman beat Aaron Simpson with a first round knee he now faces Fitch, but during his post-fight interview he didn’t seem interested in taking on Fitch.
“I’m going to talk to them about it,” said Burkman. “I think I deserve a title shot. I beat [Gerald] Harris, I beat Simpson, and those are two of the best guys outside of the UFC. I think Jon Fitch needs to earn his title shot and then we can talk about it.”
There has been no confirmation for when the first title could be introduced, though Burkman believes it will be the welterweight one. He continued that Fitch needs to fight someone else in the promotion and not be handed a possible title shot in his first appearance.
Fitch was released earlier in the year by the UFC and is considered one of the best welterweights around.
WSOF 3 is June 14 from Las Vegas, NV with no venue confirmed.
