TJ Grant is still a baby in the lightweight division, only cutting down in late 2011 but with all the shakeups, his current ranking isn’t crystal clear.
“I feel like it’s anybody’s for the taking with what’s been going on lately,” said Grant to Bleacher Report. “There are a lot of tough guys in the division, but I really feel like the landscape is changing. I’m just looking to go out there and make a big statement in this fight.”
He noted that Frankie Edgar and Anthony Pettis’ decision to go to featherweight affected the division greatly. Add in that Benson Henderson has two title defenses since winning the belt just over a year ago and it makes everything even more hectic to figure out.
Grant is now 4-0 since becoming a lightweight with two stoppages. He finished Matt Wiman in the final seconds of round one at UFC on FOX in January.
To advance among the lightweights, Grant faces Gray Maynard at UFC 160. That will be on May 25 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
