Mark Munoz didn’t have a great 2012. He lost his spot as one of the top middleweight challengers, but not before going down with an elbow and foot injury.
“It was an adversity stricken year for me,” said Munoz on MMA Interviews. “But I think adversity is the dust that polishes the diamond and I’m definitely going to shine after what happened. I’m back to training and loving life as I hone my skills.”
On two occasions, Munoz just missed out on a middleweight championship shot.
He was scratched from meeting Chael Sonnen in January of last year, which ended being a title eliminator fight. He would return with a devastating loss to Chris Weidman. With that win, Weidman became the new No. 1 contender and gets his title shot at UFC 162.
As a full year of inactivity approaches, Munoz returns opposite Tim Boetsch.
They will compete at UFC 162 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. That and the middleweight championship contest goes down July 6.
