Riki Fukuda was released by the UFC after a loss to Brad Tavares earlier this month in Japan at UFC on FUEL TV: Silva vs. Stann.
Despite the wave of cuts, it was a bit of a surprise to hear Fukuda had been let go. However, UFC officials confirmed the release had as much to do with his failed post-fight drug test as the loss.
Fukuda took to Twitter after news of the UFC’s decision broke and explained the reason he failed the test.
“Thank you for the many messages of support yesterday. Positive reaction for drugs, we have to take one type of cough syrup 1 type 2 type and American-made cold medicine, cough syrup made ??in Japan 2-3 weeks before the game. I would think that failure to report for drug drank what was commercially available, it is gone and he was out,” Fukuda wrote on Twitter.
Fukuda was immediately asked about joining the World Series of Fighting on Twitter by Jon Fitch, also a former UFC fighter.
