Jake Ellenberger and Johny Hendricks left UFC 158 rather happy. Both secured a victory and continued to propel themselves in the welterweight division. Eventually a meeting will happen between the two highly ranked fighters.
“We are going to cross paths at some point,” said Ellenberger to Bleacher Report. “I’m sure of it. Whether it comes this year, next year or the year after, Johny Hendricks and I are going to fight. It’s a stance I’ve taken and I’m not going to back off of that.”
At UFC 158, Ellenberger won on the main card with a first round knockout over former Strikeforce champion Nate Marquardt. Ellenberger has eight UFC wins with two losses coming from Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann.
In the co-main event of the show, Hendricks became the No. 1 contender when he took a decision over Condit.
For their performances, Ellenberger earned Knockout of the Night and Hendricks took Fight of the Night.
Ellenberger has no future opponent named and Hendricks recently revealed he wants his championship shot in August.
