Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira likes when his teammates succeed, but doesn’t want it to come at the suspense of Team Nogueira. Teammate’s Junior dos Santos and Antonio “Big Foot” Silva could be headed towards an unavoidable championship fight, which is something Nogueira isn’t looking forward to.
“They can’t train together for now,” said Nogueira to Sherdog. “It’s a sad thing. I don’t really like it, but each one has his way, his family. If they decide to fight, it will be a great fight.”
For a potential Santos vs. Silva championship fight, two things must still happen.
Silva will need to defeat Cain Velasquez for the title. In their first encounter, the champion took an easy round one stoppage.
Santos must defeat Mark Hunt, who has been running through fighters lately. It was in December when Santos lost the strap back to Velasquez.
Those two matchups are set for UFC 160 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV. That goes down May 25.
Nogueira takes on Fabricio Werdum at UFC on FUEL TV 10 on June 8. It comes from the Paulo Sarasate Gymnasium in Brazil.
