Alex Davis has managed several fighters in his time. When the UFC started releases in bulk, it came as no surprise to the friend of UFC matchmaker Joe Silva.
“He has to give each athlete at least three fights per year and there are too many athletes, so the guys are fighting less,” said Davis to Sherdog. “I disagree with some cuts, but they have to be made. They already have 12 fights per event and there’s a limit.”
With the introduction of Strikeforce fighters, the creation of a women’s division and the addition of lighter divisions looming it was bound to happen Davis felt.
After cutting several names from the promotion last month, the pink slips seem to have slowed, but UFC president Dana White said more are coming.
Davis has trained top names such as Fabio Maldonado, Thiago Tavares and Antonio “Big Foot” Silva.
