Tarec Saffiedine drew attention when he became the final Strikeforce welterweight champion. Since that January fight, Saffiedine has joined the UFC with no opponent announced for his first trip inside the Octagon.
Even though Saffiedine comes in as a champion, he doesn’t think he’s going to be placed directly into a title fight.
“I don’t know when my first UFC fight will be,” said Saffiedine to MMA Mania. “Getting a title shot straightaway would have been great, but I haven’t even had any title defenses in Strikeforce. Hopefully after a couple of fights I should get the title shot.”
After six wins for Strikeforce, Saffiedine defeated Nate Marquardt via decision. He used repeated inside leg kicks to earn his eighth career decision.
UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre made his eighth title defense this past weekend at UFC 158. On the same card, Johny Hendricks became the No. 1 contender.
