Just over two years ago, Gabriel Gonzaga found himself in a situation. He had gone from heavyweight title contender to getting his pink slip after failing to gain some wins. Since the UFC rehired him last year, he’s taken his last two fights after finding the right formula.
“I attribute this to me back in training,” said Gonzaga to TATAME. “I’m working hard and I’ve been able to focus on the fight. I’m going through an excellent phase and really want this.”
With four wins and Knockout of the Year for 2007, Gonzaga’s career started to drop when he lost a title fight to Randy Couture. He then went 3-3 and was released. Some of those losses came to the highly ranked Fabricio Werdum and Junior dos Santos.
Gonzaga was rehired after one fight, which saw him win the title for Reality Fighting. Since coming back, he’s choked out Ednaldo Oliveira and Ben Rothwell in less than two rounds.
He meets Travis Browne on The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale on April 13. It comes from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV and will be Browne’s return since he tore his left hamstring.
