Back in 2008, Rick Story and Jake Ellenberger stepped inside the cage at SportFight 23 and Story claimed the decision victory. Now, flash-forward several years, and both men are in the UFC’s welterweight division.
Story recently earned a TKO victory over Quinn Mulhern to improve to 2-1 in his last three, and believes that Ellenberger would make a perfect future opponent.
“I want to fight Jake Ellenberger!” he posted recently on Facebook. “It pisses me off that he’s getting all of the accolades when I already beat him. It’s annoying that people keep making the excuse for Jake ‘well that was earlier in your guy’s career’ OK, even back then he had 3 times the amount of fights that I had.”
Ellenberger is believed to be in the hunt for a future UFC welterweight title shot or a No. 1 contender match after knocking out Nate Marquardt. Story, who also owns a victory over Johny Hendricks inside the Octagon, pointed to Ellenberger’s loss to Martin Kampmann.
“Let’s look at more recent times, he got ko’d by Martin Kampmann in the 2nd round where as I went the distance with Kampmann with 1 leg,” Story added. “The bottom line is I want to be in the position he is in right now and if I have to beat his (expletive) again to get there…..Then Let’s do it!”
Story (15-6) was viewed as a top contender after defeating Hendricks and Thiago Alves, but he lost to Charlie Brenneman in a match that was originally suppose to feature Marquardt. The Kampmann loss followed that up, along with a defeat at the hands of Demian Maia.
