Andrei Arlovski felt that the slump he ran into from 2009 until early 2011 was caused by trainer Freddie Roach.
“I paid too much attention to boxing,” said Arlovski on MMA Junkie Radio. “I wanted to try professional boxing. That’s why I didn’t focus on wrestling and jiu-jitsu and it hurt me.”
Roach retired from boxing in 1986 at 40-13. Since switching gears to training, he has been named Trainer of the Year for boxing a total of five times. He coaches several champions such as Georges St. Pierre and Manny Pacquiao.
After Arlovski, a former UFC heavyweight champion, lost four in a row he has bounced back going 4-0-1. He currently trains with Greg Jackson after Arlovski teased the idea of retirement.
Arlovski returns to the World Series of Fighting for their second show on March 23. He will once again be the headliner when he takes on Anthony Johnson out of Revel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. The main card airs on the NBC Sports Network.
