Darren Elkins only watched the replay ending of his fight with Antonio Carvalho once on the jumbo screen at UFC 158. From what Elkins remembered, it was the right call for the referee to step in as Carvalho seemed out of it.
“I know he was rocked,” said Elkins to MMA Fighting. “Could he continue? I’d need to go back and watch the video. I do think I was close to finishing him. This is the fight game and I can’t control things.”
The win made Elkins the first 5-0 fighter in the featherweight division after securing the second round TKO against Carvalho. After four decisions, it was Elkins’ first finish since dropping from lightweight.
Carvalho is now 2-2 since last year. He came in off a pair of wins.
The two met on the preliminary card of yesterday’s UFC 158 out of the Bell Centre.
