Rick Story walked into his latest fight calm, despite knowing that a loss would mean a release. He left with a first round knockout over Quinn Mulhern at yesterday’s UFC 158 to keep his job.
“When I got the fight booked, that’s when I was told if I didn’t perform tonight I was going to be looking for another organization to fight in,” said Story to MMA Fighting. “I definitely wanted to keep my spot, which gave me extra motivation to train my a– off and do what I needed to win.”
Besides training harder than ever, Story chalked his win up to experience after a three plus year run the UFC.
After six wins, which includes giving welterweight No. 1 contender Johny Hendricks his only career loss, Story fell to 3-1 in recent outings before UFC 158.
Story isn’t sure who he wants to fight next.
