Carlos Condit vs. Johny Hendricks

The co-main event is next, as former interim UFC welterweight champion Carlos Condit (28-6) meets Johny Hendricks (14-1). The winner is expected to become the No. 1 contender to the title. The third man inside the Octagon will be Marc Goddard.

Round 1: Hendricks quickly lands a huge left that rocks Condit, but he remains upright. Hendricks is cutting off the distance, and he comes flying in with another series of lefts that hurt Condit. A takedown and Hendricks walks away, as he wants this bout standing. Condit took those three big shots by Hendricks but is still in this fight. Hendricks with a double-leg takedown with ease. Condit scrambles and is looking for a submission, but is unable to grab anything. Hendricks back to throwing heavy lefts, and he scores with a third takedown. A fourth successful takedown by “Bigg Rigg,” but Condit avoids taking any damage from this one. Hendricks lands another left and has him pinned against the fence. He goes for a takedown and Condit takes his back with 30 seconds left. Hendricks stands up, but is unable to get anything locked in. They exchange heavy strikes to end the round and the crowd greets them with a thunderous applause.

Round 2: Condit comes out with a serious look on his face. Hendricks lands a right, Condit answers with a flying knee and we have quite the fight on our hands. Hendricks with another takedown and moves into side control. Big right from Condit connects. Hendricks tees off with a left right to the face, and another, as blood is starting to pour from the face of the former interim champion. Another successful takedown with under three minutes to go. Pair of knees to the body from Condit, followed by a combo and a flying knee that Hendricks takes and earns his eighth takedown. Another takedown, as Condit has no defense for it, to end the round.

Round 3: Hendricks appears to have an injured left hand, and Condit comes out with that same intense stare. Despite the injury, Hendricks is still throwing his left with all his power. Condit with some nice striking, but Hendricks goes right back to his wrestling, earning another takedown. Condit looking for a kimura, but is unable to get it. He does get to his feet, though, with three minutes left. Hendricks unloads his left and Condit comes back. A kick by Condit allows another quick takedown attempt. Down to a minute left and Condit hits a head kick, only to be taken down for the 11th time. Now Hendricks has a cut on his forehead, as Condit is looking for a submission before taking an escape instead. Condit with a powerful knee, Hendricks goes for a takedown, Condit tries for a kimura, rolls out and unloads as the Bell Centre stands in approval. A very easy candidate for Fight of the Year right there folks.
