Rory MacDonald wanted the rematch with Carlos Condit and was granted it, but had to withdraw after suffering a neck injury in training. While it’s not known if that fight will be rebooked, MacDonald hopes so.
“It was a big opportunity, a big fight,” said MacDonald to MMA Fighting. “The rematch was the biggest thing I wanted and it was a letdown. I have high hopes that before the year is over that me and Carlos will fight. I don’t think I lost my opportunity, in that sense.”
Condit handed MacDonald his only defeat at UFC 115 in June 2010. With seven seconds left in the fight, Condit took the TKO victory. It was later revealed that if it went to the judges, MacDonald would have been declared the winner.
After MacDonald defeated BJ Penn over the winter, he called out Condit for the rematch during the post-fight interview.
MacDonald doesn’t have an exact return date, but is looking at the summer. If Condit is not available, MacDonald will take on any welterweight though he wants to avenge that loss.
