UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey cites using PEDs as a way to harm one’s body. Add in that Rousey considers it cheating to strengthen her claim, as she hopes the UFC and athletic commissions continue to seek out those who use them.
“We should try and catch those people who are cheating because the second we give up and stop pursuing them, then we stop supporting the athletes that really matter,” said Rousey on the Jim Rome Show.
After Rousey won the Strikeforce bantamweight title, which was later promoted to the UFC, the longstanding verbal exchange with Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos began. Rousey would target Santos for failing a drug test for steroids.
The two were thought to be a potential UFC matchup, but Santos was unwilling to drop down from featherweight and Rousey didn’t plan on packing extra pounds to make the contest happen.
Santos was eventually granted a release from her Zuffa contract and has since signed with Invicta FC. Rousey defeated Liz Carmouche in the main event of UFC 157 last month, to retain her title in what was the first WMMA fight under the UFC name.
