One time holder of the UFC welterweight championship, Pat Miletich thinks Georges St-Pierre is too smart of a fighter to let emotions sway him. Heading into Saturday’s title defense against Nick Diaz, the challenger has thrown enough comments towards the champion to test that theory.
“GSP has usually always fought smart,” said Miletich to Bloody Elbow. “I just see it as GSP being too athletic, too explosive and too well rounded. He’s too big, physically, and most likely, he’s going to be taking him down and making Diaz carry his weight.”
Miletich has it in St-Pierre’s best interest to take this one to the ground early and not trade punches while standing. He went on that St-Pierre would take the decision win or a referee stoppage.
“I don’t see Georges as being dumb enough to just stand in there with him for any length of time,” said Miletich.
St-Pierre vs. Diaz headlines UFC 158 from the Bell Centre out of Canada on March 16. FightLine will be there with the play-by-play and news that follows.
