UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre was more than annoyed Thursday, as Nick Diaz peppered him with questions and comments during the pre-fight press conference for UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz.
However, “Rush” plans to maintain a level of focus as he prepares to enter the Octagon and meet the former Strikeforce champion Saturday night.
“People like to see emotion, but I am only focusing on my fight,” GSP said. “I don’t wish nothing bad for you. It’s a fight, I am going to do my best, be the best prepared I can be.”
St-Pierre and Diaz have been the main story for several months now, and the two have taken over recent conference calls, engaging in one-on-one conversations with each other. It happened again Thursday, as the challenger started questioning parts of promos airing to hype the event.
“The reason we are fighting each other is because I believe Nick is the best guy in mixed martial arts. It has nothing to do with…..”
Diaz interrupted St-Pierre, saying, “You told fans I chased you around,” to which GSP replied, “You told fans I was scared of you.”
The two did not get very close during the staredown segment following the press conference, and will likely do the same Friday after weigh-ins are complete.
