The rematch between Ben Saunders and Douglas Lima will have to wait since it was announced that Lima is out with a broken hand. They were to conclude the Season 8 welterweight tournament this month, but that has been pushed until the Summer Series.
The injury came weeks before they’re to meet in a rematch. Lima took the first encounter with a second round knockout.
“I’m good to go, in shape and on weight,” said Saunders on MMA Interviews. “It is what it is. I just need to stay mentally focused. 99.9 percent of this is mental.”
Saunders has been in camp since November and the long layoff has caused him to slightly change is training. With the extra time, he plans on adding new tricks over the next two months and then starting his camp again so he can peak at the right time.
No exact date was given for when the fight will be rescheduled.
