UFC president Dana White appeared on the Jim Rome Show Wednesday and told a story about UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz. The two will finally square off this Saturday night at UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz.
It would appear that, along with a match that was cancelled due to Diaz no-showing press events and GSP suffering a knee injury, the two were close to coming to blows in a hotel several years ago.
“Nobody has talked about this. I haven’t said anything about it, but at one of the fights (UFC 137 when Diaz defeated BJ Penn), he was chasing Georges around the hotel and yelling at him,” White said. “Georges those he was going to try to fight him in the hotel. He was just waiting for the elevator doors to open and see Nick Diaz. He was really messing with Georges bad. That really pissed Georges off.”
White continued, saying he recently talked with St-Pierre and that “Rush” told him, “you have no idea what I’m going to do to this kid. I wanna make him retire.”
FightLine will have complete coverage over the next three days of UFC 158, including the pre-fight press conference, weigh-ins and fight night coverage.
