Frankie Edgar: “I Deserve A Top Name”

Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson was talked about as a replacement main event for The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. That didn’t happen, but Edgar is ready to place the fight on another show.

“I’m looking at Cub as a number,” said Edgar on The MMA Hour. “If he’s the highest ranked guy and that’s the fight that is available, then that’s the guy I want to fight. I’ve had seven fights in three years and I’ve either been champion or fighting for the belt so I think I deserve a top name. He’s a number, I don’t know what it is.”

The last seven fights for Edgar have seen him in the title picture. After losing his lightweight championship and rematch that followed, the New Jersey native dropped to featherweight. His initial fight as a lighter competitor was a shot at the championship, where he was unsuccessful in defeating Jose Aldo.

Swanson went 1-1 in his first year for the UFC. He has since compiled four consecutive wins with three stoppages by way of his fist. He defeated Dustin Poirier a month ago, when the UFC returned to England.

Both men currently have no confirmed fights.
