As far as former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is concerned, Alistair Overeem is of little importance to him now. The two were set to meet in May, but an injury knocked Overeem out.
Now, “Cigano” will face Mark Hunt in the co-main event to UFC 160: Velasquez vs. Silva II. And, as for any future meeting with the former Strikeforce champion, dos Santos seems uninterested.
“I think this guy is a joke,” said dos Santos, during an interview with Brazil’s Mundo da Luta TV. “He’s a big man when he’s pumped up from taking ‘the bomb’ for the fight, and is talking a lot of nonsense. I have nothing to do with him.”
Dos Santos was referencing a failed pre-fight drug test by Overeem for elevated levels of testosterone. In the build-up and after their first fight was cancelled, Overeem had plenty to say concerning the Brazilian, and dos Santos didn’t back down.
“He can follow his own career and do what he thinks best,” JDS said. “I’ll follow mine, and if one day we collide and he does not have any problems, we will fight.”
