Georges St-Pierre watched Chris Weidman training and thinks that a major upset is in the works. This summer, Silva defends his championship for an eleventh time against the 9-0 Weidman.
“I believe he’s going to beat Anderson Silva,” said St-Pierre to SportsNet. “I believe it’s a bad matchup for Anderson Silva. It’s very bad. Not only is he going to beat him, I believe he’s going to finish Anderson Silva. I believe it’s not going to be too long, that fight. People will be shocked.”
The current welterweight champion thought that Silva’s timing for taking the fight was interesting as Weidman’s coming back from a shoulder injury that occurred in November. He’s finished three of his five UFC fights.
St-Pierre and Silva have been teased for years as a potential superfight. The most recent round of rumors started at the end of last year. They have died down.
This weekend, St-Pierre defends his belt in Canada at UFC 158. He takes on Nick Diaz from the Bell Centre.
