Former interim UFC welterweight champion Carlos Condit has one goal in mind for Saturday night at UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz: win. “The Natural Born Killer” will meet Johny Hendricks in the co-main event from Montreal.
After suffering his first loss in recent years to Georges St-Pierre, Condit knows a victory over Hendricks will place him right back in the running to fight for the belt.
“It’s a huge fight,” Condit said, in a pre-fight interview. “It puts me right back in title contention with a win. It’s a risky fight, it’s dangerous; but the reward is definitely worth it.”
Condit (28-6) had his five-fight win streak snapped by GSP last November, suffering a decision loss. Prior to that, his last defeat came in 2009 against Martin Kampmann.
If Condit needed any further ammunition for wanting to defeat “Bigg Rigg,” he received it, as he said, “Hendricks called me out. If somebody wants to fight you, that means you have something that they want. As dangerous as he is, as feared as he is, he’s gotta step in the ring and fight me.”
