Ricky Legere was backstage preparing for his Bellator 92 fight, which was hours away, when he got a call from the UFC’s Dan Henderson. The former champion of several top MMA organizations was headed to the arena to cheer him on.
Henderson almost missed watching his Team Quest teammate Legere take a second round submission against Sabah Homasi.
“I was supposed to be the sixth fight, but TV went long so they said you’re going to be the second to last fight,” said Legere on MMA Interviews. “It made it nice since Dan was able to be there in the stands and he got to root me on.”
It was Legere’s first fight for Bellator and sixth win in a row. He’s 16-4 with his latest fights coming out of KOTC, Gladiator, Strikeforce and Bellator.
“I love my home at Team Quest,” said Legere.
Henderson lost his No. 1 contender status in the light heavyweight division with a loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC 157.
Bellator 92 came from the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, CA this past Thursday, March 7.
