Jon Anik is still relatively new to calling UFC matches, but he will be hard-pressed to surpass his most recent main event. Anik talked with Fighters.com about calling the Wanderlei Silva-Brian Stann epic that went down from Japan.
“We all put the Saitama Super Arena on a pedestal as MMA fans, and rightfully so, but to be in that building for a Wanderlei Silva fight and actually call the fight was for me one of the top three favorite moments of my career,” Anik said. “I think it is going to be one that is tough to top. In one breath, I would say as a fan, it would be cool to just go to a show because when you are working the show, it is a different experience and you don’t necessarily get to take it all in.”
Silva and Stann engaged for five full minutes to start the fight, standing and trading blows with one another. The second started much the same before “The Axe Murderer” got the better of “The All-American” and finished the contest.
“I had chills head-to-toe when Wanderlei made that walk,” Anik said. “That is something I will look back upon fondly, and I just hope I get to do something like that again.”
