Jon Fitch has broken his silence since he was shockingly released by the UFC about a month ago. While his release was sudden, Fitch always felt tension from the UFC and saw his walking papers coming.
“It was a surprise, but not really,” said Fitch on Inside MMA. “I’ve always felt there was some kind of issue between the UFC and me. I never understood what it was. I never felt they were happy with me. I felt [the release] coming.”
Just recently, Fitch signed with the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) for four fights and is looking to fulfill that contract in a year and a half. The two sides had been working on the contract for a few weeks and the former UFC welterweight title contender didn’t really field other offers.
Fitch liked how the WSOF is young and has good footing as he prepares to take his UFC record of 14-3-1 with him.
No opponent has been named for his first fight. Fitch believes he’ll know more after WSOF 2, which is on March 23 from Revel Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. The NBC Sports Network will air the card.
