Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney had nothing but positive words about Daniel Straus, who was recently arrested and placed behind bars for several drug charges. Since the arrest, the two have spoken twice.
“Daniel Straus is an awesome fighter and guy,” said Rebney to Sherdog. “He’s been wonderful to deal with. I’ve heard the story directly from his mouth and have absolutely no reason to not believe what he told me.”
Straus was charged with driving on a suspended license, possession of cannabis, possession of ecstasy and possession of drug paraphernalia last week. He is out on $2,200 bail in Florida.
Days before, he pulled out of his featherweight championship fight for Bellator 95 against Pat Curran because of a broken hand. Shahbulat Shamhalaev was named as a replacement.
“We’re going to support him and if any there is some kind of penalty that must be paid, we’ll be there for him,” said Rebney.
