Michael Chandler hears fighters talking about respect and how holding championship gold backs that up. For him, he’s more focused on becoming the best lightweight in the world.
“I’m living the dream no matter what,” said Chandler on MMA Interviews. “I wake up every morning doing what I love. My goal is to not be the champion. My goal is to be known as the best lightweight in the world. Even when I am that, I won’t be satisfied.”
Chandler has been able to call himself champion since he won the lightweight title in November 2011 out of Bellator. He gave Eddie Alvarez his only defeat during his run in the promotion. The champion defended his belt in the main event of Bellator 85 in January. He submitted Rick Hawn in two rounds.
His next opponent could be either Saad Awad or David Rickels, both of whom are in the finals of the Season 8 tournament.
Chandler is undefeated with 11 wins, nine of which came by him ending the fight.
