Maurício “Shogun” Rua reached his dream when he won gold in PRIDE and the UFC. For his rematch with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, he plans to end the fight like he always aims to do.
“Everybody knows my game, they know every time I want a knockout or submission,” said Rua to MMA Prime TV. “Every time, I want to finish the fight. I will stand up for a knockout or a submission; I fight every time for a finish.”
They originally met in the quarterfinals of the 2005 grand prix out of PRIDE. Rua took a decision in what was called Fight of the Year before winning the gold.
Since dropping the UFC light heavyweight title, Rua is now 3-3. Nogueira comes in off wins against Tito Ortiz and Rashad Evans.
The rematch is at UFC 161 from the MTS Centre in Canada on June 15. It’s the UFC’s debut in Winnipeg.
