After a lengthy stay in Strikeforce, Rafael Cavalcante will make his debut inside the Octagon opposite Thiago Silva. While they have 15 minutes, Cavalcante isn’t seeing the fight going to a decision.
“I’m dying to fight,” said Cavalcante to TATAME. “I’m training hard against Thiago Silva. I’m sure someone will end up on the floor.”
Cavalcante had his first Strikeforce fight in 2009, after a stint in Elite XC. He went 4-2-1 during his three year run with the promotion. He held their light heavyweight title for a time, before dropping it to Dan Henderson. He defeated Mike Kyle in his final appearance for them, but it was overturned and Cavalcante was suspended when the steroid stanozolol was found in his system post-fight.
Silva lost two of his last four. The other fights were changed from wins to no contest for issues involving drugs. He comes in off a six month suspension for marijuana metabolites being found in his system.
They meet at UFC 162 on July 6 from Las Vegas, NV. Anderson Silva defends his middleweight championship against Chris Weidman in the main event.
