Former UFC heavyweight champion Mark Coleman made is retirement official on Tuesday, as the 48-year-old confirmed on his Facebook page that he is finished fighting.
Coleman, who has not competed since 2010, must undergo hip replacement surgery next week. “The Hammer” won the UFC 10 and UFC 11 tournament titles, and was the first-ever UFC heavyweight champion.
The former NCAA wrestler holds career wins over the likes of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Dan Severn, Stephan Bonnar and others. He also claimed the 2000 PRIDE Open Weight Grand Prix title and was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame.
Coleman’s last fight came in 2010, as he was defeated by fellow hall of famer Randy Couture. He finishes his MMA career with a record of 16-10.
