Clint Hester, the No. 1 pick by Team Jones, was unable to solve Jimmy Quinlan’s wrestling, falling victim to a second round rear-naked choke. The win improved Team Sonnen to 4-2 with one prelim bout left.
Quinlan joined teammates Luke Barnatt, Kelvin Gastelum and Uriah Hall as opening round winners on The Ultimate Fighter 17.
Hester landed some heavy strikes in the first round, but Quinlan remained poised and continued to take him down. The second was much the same, with Quinlan locking in the choke early on.
The final prelim fight will take place next Tuesday on FX, as Dylan Andrews from Team Jones meets Zak Cummings of Team Sonnen. The episode will also feature the coaches challenge.
