Cathal Pendred considers himself one of the best welterweights in the world and will show that when he returns to Cage Warriors this weekend.
“I believe I’m the best welterweight in Europe outside the UFC, and Cage Warriors is the biggest available title in Europe,” said Pendred on MMA Junkie Radio. “So basically it makes me the European champion if I have the Cage Warriors belt.”
Pendred meets welterweight champion Gael Grimaud in the main event of Cage Warriors 52, as the promotion holds their first event of the year.
Grimaud is somewhat of a submission specialist with 11 of his past 17 wins coming that way. Pendred has won five of his last six fights.
Pendred hopes to follow in the footsteps of Conor McGregor, who recently signed with the UFC. He held the featherweight and lightweight championships out of Cage Warriors when he joined the UFC roster. He debuts for them at UFC on FUEL TV 9 against Marcus Brimage from the Ericsson Globe Arena in Sweden.
Cage Warriors 52 comes from the HMV Forum in England on March 9. The main card streams live via MMA Junkie. Most of the preliminary fights can be seen on Facebook.
