Former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez was arrested March 3 on suspicion of DUI.
He was taken into custody at 1:25 a.m. in Los Angeles, CA. The charge is a misdemeanor and Rodriguez was released several hours later on $5,000 bail.
A representative for Rodriguez questioned the breathalyzer used as he blew two different scores.
“When Ricco was arrested the police officer said he blew a .1,” said Rodriguez’s representative to TMZ. “When they had him take another breathalyzer at the station only a few minutes later he blew a .08. We are wondering how a breathalyzer dropped .02 points after a very short time.”
Rodriguez plans to fight the charges.
Law enforcement told TMZ that Rodriguez voluntarily took the breathalyzer and it’s not uncommon to get varying results.
Rodriguez was 5-2 for the UFC and last stepped inside the Octagon in 2003. His current overall record is 49-19 after taking four loses last year.
