Tom Wright, who is in charge of the UFC’s Canadian division, announced that UFC 161 will indeed take place June 15 from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada during a press conference on Tuesday. The event had previously been reported as taking place.
Also, Wright confirmed that light heavyweights Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira will face off in a rematch several years in the making. Rua defeated Nogueira back in PRIDE.
No further matches were announced, but plenty have been rumored for the card, including Dan Henderson-Rashad Evans and Jake Shields-Tyron Woodley.
The card will take place from the MTS Centre and will be a pay-per-view event. Winnipeg will become the fifth Canadian city to hold a card.
