As far as Alexander Gustafsson is concerned, he’s tired of waiting for a shot at the UFC light heavyweight title. The Swede will face Gegard Mousasi in April at UFC on FUEL TV: Gustafsson vs. Mousasi.
And, if he is successful vs. Mousasi, “The Mauler” has his next fight already in mind.
“I am going to grab the mic and I’m going to challenge the champ after this fight,” said Gustafsson, during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour. “I will (call out the champion). No more Mr. Nice Guy, no more running; it’s time.”
Gustafsson is coming off a key win over former UFC champ Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, and he made sure to let fans know his complete focus for now is on the dangerous Mousasi, saying, “My biggest concern right now is Mousasi. That’s my biggest focus, that’s the only thing I think of right now.”
UFC president Dana White had previously stated that Gustafsson was the top contender, but has since said Lyoto Machida is the No. 1 challenger to the title after Jon Jones faces Chael Sonnen in April.
