Championship Fighting Alliance (CFA) returned with the opening rounds to crown their inaugural 145 pound women’s champion. The main event featured some familiar UFC and Strikeforce names.
Ex-UFC fighter James McSweeney needed just 38 seconds to finish onetime Strikeforce fighter Dion Staring. McSweeney last stepped inside the Octagon in 2010 after going 1-2. He was defeat by top contenders Travis Browne and Fabio Maldonado. Daniel Cormier handed Staring a loss on the final Strikeforce card in January.
Allanna Jones, Peggy Morgan, Ashlee Evans-Smith and Fallon Fox made it to the semifinals of the tournament, with three of those fights going to a decision. Besides winning the title at a later date, the female that takes the tournament will also have an extra $20,000 to her name.
