At Bellator 91, it was hard to miss the cutout headshots of Season 8 lightweight tournament competitor David Rickels. The posters didn’t shock Rickels who had his team pass them out prior to his fight as a way to market himself.
“They see that face and recognize me and know that I’m trying to put on an entertaining fight,” said Rickelts to Sherdog. “That’s the sole purpose of me getting into fighting. There’s nothing more I enjoy then when I look around and the crowd is enjoying your fight. I’m just trying to make the fans happy.”
With Rickels’ win on the recent show, he now finds a place in the finals against Saad Awad. Rickels defeated Jason Fischer for the second time in his career at Bellator 91 via decision to setup the upcoming fight. Before that, he took another decision over Lloyd Woodard.
This is Rickels’ second tournament appearance after losing a split-decision in the semifinals of Season 6 to the eventual winner Karl Amoussou.
Awad finished both opponents in under a minute to advance to the finals.
The tournament concludes at Bellator 94 from the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, FL on March 28. Spike TV airs the main card at 10 p.m. ET.
