Brian Stann Shows Respect For Wanderlei Silva Following Loss

Brian Stann grew up idolizing Wanderlei Silva. Saturday night, he got the opportunity to test his skills vs. the former PRIDE champion, and it wasn’t a good end result.

Silva floored Stann after a thunderous first round, finishing him in the second with a nasty combination in the main event of UFC on FUEL TV: Silva vs. Stann from Saitama, Japan.

“I knew what I had to risk when I signed on the dotted line,” Stann said. “(Silva) is one of the fighters who inspired me to start this sport. I am proud to be a part of his career, and as much as this hurts right now, I am still proud I laid it all on the line.”

Stann, a military veteran, received several chants of “USA” during the nine-plus minute bout. He was able to go toe-to-toe with Silva in the first round, as the two exchanged strike-for-strike, much to the excitement of the fans.
