Saad Awad entered the Season 8 lightweight tournament as a major underdog. He now sits in the finals of the Bellator tournament, after knocking out each opponent in less than 45 seconds.
Before being one win away from a guaranteed title shot, Awad had contemplated retirement.
“I started really thinking about it and I thought to myself that I’ve put way too much time into it to walk away now,” said Awad on MMA Junkie Radio. “I told myself to hit it hard for a while and see where it takes me. Thank God it finally started paying off.”
The two wins came against Guillaume DeLorenzi and Will Brooks. Awad meets David Rickels in the finals. Rickels’ path in the tournament hasn’t been easy as he needed two decisions to land where he’s at.
The tournament concludes at Bellator 94 on March 28 from the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, FL.
