Kelsey De Santis Feels Better After Long Layoff

Kelsey De Santis might not be a familiar name, but her workout led to Championship Fighting Alliance (CFA) promoter Jorge De La Noval to introduce a women’s championship into the promotion. An eight women’s tournament starts later today with Santis meeting Allanna Jones in the opening round. It will be Santis’ return to action since October 2011.

“Even in this last year that I haven’t fought, I’ve gotten stronger,” said Santis to MMA Weekly. “I think that’s sometimes good for fighters to take the time that they need to transition to the next level. My training has gotten even better and I’m more the fighter that I want to be.”

It will be Santis’ professional debut after three amateur wins out of Operation Octagon. She finished two of those wins in the first round. Jones was busy in her amateur career with eight fights. Since turning pro last year, Jones is 1-1.

CFA 10 comes from the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, FL and can be seen live via UStream. The rest of the tournament has Ashlee Evans-Smith vs. Tori Adams, Peggy Morgan vs. Revelina Berto and Fallon Fox vs. Ericka Newsome. Besides the winner becoming the inaugural champion, she always leaves with $20,000.
