Jorge “Macaco” Patino Struggles To Adapt With Age Gap Before Tonight’s Legacy FC 18

The level of fighters entering MMA is getting younger every day, which means Jorge “Macaco” Patino has to adapt to keep going.

“When you get old, it’s more difficult to recover, more difficult to learn,” said Patino on MMA Junkie Radio. “I have to take care of my family, my wife, my students, and still train to defend my title. It’s very hard.”

Over the fall, the 39-year-old Patino tore his MCL. He opted not for surgery and fought a month later taking a first round submission over Gerson Cordeiro for Predador FC 22. He won their vacant lightweight championship to go with his other titles. Patino also serves as Legacy FC’s lightweight and welterweight championship.

Tonight, Patino will defend his Legacy FC welterweight title when he meets Derrick Krantz, who earned a pair of first round submissions out of Legacy FC last year to get the shot at the gold.

Legacy FC 18 comes from the Arena Theatre in Houston, TX. The preliminary card starts at 7 p.m. ET and is untelevised. The main card, which features Patino and Krantz as the co-main event, can be seen on AXS TV with a 10 p.m. start time.
