It didn’t take long for Jacob Volkmann to find an enemy after recently being released by the UFC and signing with the World Series of Fighting (WSOF). Lightweight veteran John Gunderson has issued a challenge and it was far from friendly.
“I just don’t like the guy,” said Gunderson to MMA Junkie. “I don’t like any of the s— he says and I don’t like the style he fights. He’s gotten on my nerves ever since I’ve seen him fight.”
Gunderson’s WSOF debut has been delayed due to a neck injury and he hopes to meet Volkmann for the third installment of WSOF, which is tentatively scheduled for April.
Volkmann was cut by the UFC after going 6-4 and recently suffered a submission loss to Bobby Green at UFC 156. Five of those wins came by decision.
Gunderson had a short stint in the UFC in 2010 that saw him go 2-1, with each fight ending via decision.
There has been no comment from Volkmann regarding Gunderson’s challenge. The WSOF is currently focused on their second show and hasn’t addressed the challenge put forth by Gunderson.
