Closing in on two years and Bellator will finally see their light heavyweight title defended by Christian M’Pumbu, who won the belt back in May of 2011.
“I have been away from the cage for way too long, but I’ve used all that time to constantly get better,” said M’Pumbu to MMA Junkie. “There are still a lot of fans in the United States that don’t know who I am, but all of that is going to change on Thursday night.”
After going 9-0, M’Pumbu touched American soil for the first time when he entered the Bellator Season 4 light heavyweight tournament. All three fights had the same outcome, a TKO win for M’Pumbu which allowed him to be called the inaugural champion. He took a loss in October 2011 at Bellator 55 to veteran Travis Wiuff, but the title was not on the line. He has been inactive since.
That changes today, February 28, as he meets Attila Vegh at Bellator 91.
Bellator 91 comes from the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, NM.
