When Hector Lombard entered the UFC from Bellator, many felt he was only a fight or two from competing against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. However, a debut loss to Tim Boetsch sent Lombard to the back of the line.
The former long-time Bellator champion rebounded with a win over Rousimar Palhares to close out 2012, and will look to make it two straight when he faces previous No. 1 contender Yushin Okami on Saturday at UFC on FUEL TV: Silva vs. Stann.
As far as Lombard is thinking, though, all the focus is on Okami – and none on a potential collision with Silva down the road.
“I need to focus on this fight at the moment,” said Lombard, during the pre-fight press conference Thursday. “After that, we can think about (a title shot). Right now, I am focusing on this fight.”
Lombard (32-3-1) finished Palhares in the first round this past December, putting on display the skills everyone else saw in Bellator. It was a far cry from his decision loss to Boetsch.
“My last fight, I felt great, didn’t have any issues; that’s why I performed that way,” Lombard said. “My first performance wasn’t that bad. I feel great for this fight. I’m going to do the same thing I did in my last fight.”
