Wanderlei Silva Might Remain At Light Heavyweight, Not Planning To Retire Just Yet

Former PRIDE champion Wanderlei Silva will receive a hero’s welcome when he returns to Japan this Saturday night for UFC on FUEL TV: Silva vs. Stann. “The Axe Murderer” will be meeting Brian Stann in the main event from the Saitama Super Arena.

Silva, who put together a lengthy unbeaten run while competing in the country, will return to light heavyweight for this bout after taking several middleweight and catch-weight fights over the recent years. The decision could be one he sticks with for the time being.

“For 185, I would have had to lose 20 pounds, and it’s just too hard,” said Silva, during the pre-fight press conference Thursday. “He accepted the fight at 205. It’s better now; too much diet’s hard.”

Silva (34-12-1) said he was unsure if he would bounce back to middleweight or remain at 205, but did say that talk fo retirement is one he hasn’t pondered “yet.”

As for being back in Japan, Silva said, “I am so proud to be fighting here. I had the best moments of my career (in the country), and on Sunday, I am going to give you a great show for the fans.”
