Stefan Struve will look for his fifth straight stoppage this weekend against Mark Hunt. If he is able to accomplish that, the seven foot tall heavyweight sees a title shot in his future.
“I’ve got a really strong bid to be one of the top contenders, maybe even the top contender in the heavyweight division,” said Struve to Bloody Elbow. “I think I’ll be close to the title shot by the end of this year and get it no later than the beginning of next year.”
Since debuting for the UFC in 2009, Struve is 9-3. Roy Nelson, Travis Browne and former champion Junior dos Santos are the three that have handed Struve defeat. Each loss came in the opening round. Out of his 30 professional fights, only once has Struve allowed the decision to go to the judges.
Hunt comes into their fight with three straight wins, with the last being over Cheick Kongo a year ago. He was supposed to meet Struve in May of last year, but pulled out 10 days before due to injury.
Struve vs. Hunt is the co-main event of UFC on FUEL TV this Sunday, March 3. It takes place from the Saitama Super Arena in Japan.
