Despite losing a title fight, The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale has UFC president Dana White excited. The new main event will feature Urijah Faber taking on Scott Jorgensen April 13 from Las Vegas.
Originally, Demetrious Johnson was set to defend his UFC flyweight title against John Moraga, but Johnson suffered an injury and will not be able to make the bout.
UFC officials announced the new Faber-Jorgensen bout recently, and White is overjoyed with the match up.
“Urijah Faber is one of the best bantamweights in the world and he proved it at UFC 157 by submitting Ivan Menjivar in the first round,” White said. “He’s ready to jump right back in the Octagon on April 13 with Scott Jorgensen, who’s ranked seventh in the world at 135 pounds. Both of these guys like to finish fights. This is a really exciting main event for the TUF Finale.”
Faber is a former WEC featherweight champion and is currently ranked No. 2 at bantamweight behind champions Dominick Cruz and Renan Barao.
Jorgensen, a three-time Pac-10 wrestler at Boise State University, earned Fight and Submission of the Night for his December win over John Albert.
The card also features the second female fight, as Miesha Tate battles Cat Zingano. Heavyweights Travis Browne and Gabriel Gonzaga square off, while the finals of The Ultimate Fighter 17 also take place.
